Zeaxan Side Effects: What to Know Before You Start
A few Zeaxan ingredients have side effects worth knowing before you start.
Ginkgo may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners, green tea extract pills are a rare cause of liver injury, and bacopa can upset the stomach. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you take regular medication.
Next, see who should ask first.

What are the possible side effects of Zeaxan?
No study has tested Zeaxan, so there is no side-effect list for the product. What we can show is what health agencies report for each of its 11 ingredients.
The label gives only a 600 mg total for the whole blend, not single amounts (21 CFR 101.36). The doses in two capsules may be far below those studied, but nobody outside the maker can confirm that.
| Ingredient (label order) | What sources report | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Himalayan pink salt (1st) | Sodium; the Daily Value is under 2,300 mg | (FDA, sodium) |
| Cinnamon extract (2nd) | Cassia cinnamon has coumarin, linked to liver problems in sensitive people at high intakes | (NCCIH, cinnamon) |
| AGP choline (3rd) | An observational link to higher stroke risk | (Lee et al., 2021) |
| Bacopa (4th) | Upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue; not for people on thyroid medicine | (MSD Manual, bacopa) |
| Lutein (5th) and zeaxanthin (10th) | No specific side effects in our sources | (Wilson et al., 2021) |
| Bilberry leaf (6th) | Leaves may be unsafe in high doses or over long periods | (NCCIH, bilberry) |
| Vitamin B6 (7th) | High-dose supplements for a year or longer can damage nerves | (NIH ODS, B6) |
| Ginkgo (8th) | Dizziness, stomach upset, headache; may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners | (NCCIH, ginkgo) |
| Vitamin B12 (9th) | Not shown to cause harm, even at high doses | (NIH ODS, B12) |
| Green tea extract (11th) | A rare but well-established cause of liver injury when taken as pills | (LiverTox, green tea) |
Interactions
Which medicines should you check before taking Zeaxan?
Blood thinners, thyroid medicine and drugs cleared by the liver come first. The table names the ingredient behind each check.
| If you take or have | Ingredient to ask about | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Warfarin and other blood thinners (anticoagulants) | Ginkgo | May increase bleeding risk. (NCCIH, ginkgo) |
| Thyroid medicine | Bacopa | MSD Manual says people taking thyroid medicine should not use bacopa. (MSD Manual, bacopa) |
| Prescription drugs cleared by the liver | Bacopa | Bacopa inhibits several liver enzymes that process drugs. Ask your pharmacist. (StatPearls, bacopa) |
| Liver disease, or medicines that can strain the liver | Green tea extract; cinnamon | Green tea extract pills are a rare, well-established cause of liver injury; cassia cinnamon has coumarin. (LiverTox, green tea) (NCCIH, cinnamon) |
| A past stroke, or stroke risk factors | AGP choline (alpha-GPC) | A large observational study linked alpha-GPC to higher stroke risk. Not proof, but worth asking about. (Lee et al., 2021) |
| Metformin | Vitamin B12 | Metformin can lower B12. The blend's B12 amount is not published, so it cannot replace a blood test. (NIH ODS, B12) |
| Other eye vitamins, B-complex or multivitamins | Lutein, zeaxanthin, B6 | Count totals. High-dose B6 for a year or longer can damage nerves; the upper limit is 100 mg a day. (NIH ODS, B6) |
"Natural" does not always mean safe, so tell every doctor about each supplement you take (NCCIH, 2019).
Liver
Is Zeaxan safe for your liver?
There is no liver data on Zeaxan itself, but one ingredient calls for care. Green tea extract in pills is rated a well-established cause of liver injury, with more than 100 published cases (LiverTox, green tea).
It is rare. In trials, a liver blood marker (ALT) rose in 6.7% of extract users versus 0.7% of others (LiverTox, green tea). A gene variant found in about 5-15% of Americans seems to raise the risk (NCCIH, green tea). Drinking green tea has not been linked to liver injury.
Ask your doctor first, and do not stack it with other green tea extract products. See green tea and cinnamon.
Blood thinners
Can Zeaxan raise bleeding risk?
It might, if you take a blood thinner. Zeaxan contains ginkgo, and NCCIH says ginkgo may increase bleeding risk in people taking anticoagulants such as warfarin (NCCIH, ginkgo).
Ginkgo is listed eighth of 11, so the amount is likely small. But the amount is not printed, so ask before mixing it with a blood thinner. See the ginkgo page.

What about bacopa, alpha-GPC, bilberry leaf and the B vitamins?
Mostly mild or rare concerns, but each one has a group of people who should ask first.
Bacopa
Upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue are the most common (MSD Manual, bacopa). It also slows liver enzymes that process drugs (StatPearls, bacopa).
AGP choline (alpha-GPC)
A study of about 12 million Korean adults linked it to higher 10-year stroke risk (hazard ratio 1.46) (Lee et al., 2021). That does not prove cause.
Bilberry leaf
Leaves may be unsafe in high doses or for long periods (NCCIH, bilberry). Zeaxan uses leaf powder, amount not published.
Vitamin B6, B12 and salt
B6 has an upper limit of 100 mg a day; high doses for a year or longer can harm nerves (NIH ODS, B6). B12 has not been shown to cause harm (NIH ODS, B12).
Quick check
Who should not take Zeaxan without asking a doctor first?
Anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing, or with a known medical condition. That is from the bottle's caution panel, which also says "Adult Use Only."

A checklist, not medical advice. See who Zeaxan is for.
If something feels off
What should you do if Zeaxan seems to disagree with you?
Stop taking it and call your doctor or pharmacist. Bring the bottle so they can read the label.
Get eye changes checked the same day
Sudden flashes, many new floaters or a curtain over your vision need an eye doctor right away (AAO, retina).

FAQ
Zeaxan side effects: common questions
Does Zeaxan cause stomach upset?
It can for some people. Bacopa, the fourth ingredient, commonly causes upset stomach, nausea and diarrhea, and ginkgo can also upset the stomach (MSD Manual, bacopa) (NCCIH, ginkgo). Taking the capsules at the same time each day helps you spot a pattern. If it keeps happening, stop and ask your pharmacist.
Can Zeaxan hurt your liver?
It is unlikely but possible. Green tea extract pills are a rare but well-established cause of liver injury, and cassia cinnamon contains coumarin (LiverTox, green tea) (NCCIH, cinnamon). Zeaxan publishes no amounts for either. If you have liver disease or take medicines that strain the liver, ask your doctor before you start.
Can I take Zeaxan with thyroid medicine?
Ask your doctor first, because Zeaxan contains bacopa. MSD Manual says people taking thyroid medicine should not use bacopa (MSD Manual, bacopa). The amount of bacopa in Zeaxan is not published, so your doctor cannot judge the dose either. Bring the bottle to your appointment so they can read the label.
Is it safe to take Zeaxan every day for months?
No study has looked at long-term Zeaxan use. Two ingredients carry long-term notes: bilberry leaves may be unsafe over long periods, and high-dose B6 for a year or more can harm nerves (NCCIH, bilberry) (NIH ODS, B6). Check in with your doctor at each yearly visit.
Is Zeaxan safe during pregnancy?
The label says pregnant or nursing mothers should consult a physician before using it. No study has tested Zeaxan in pregnancy, and the blend amounts are not published. Talk to your obstetrician or midwife before taking it, and bring the bottle so they can see every ingredient.
Does the alpha-GPC in Zeaxan raise stroke risk?
Nobody knows for this product. A large observational study linked alpha-GPC use to higher 10-year stroke risk, but it does not prove cause (Lee et al., 2021). Zeaxan lists alpha-GPC third and gives no amount. If you have had a stroke or have stroke risk factors, ask first.
