Zeaxan Side Effects: 7 Checks Before Your First Capsule
No study has tested Zeaxan for side effects, so there is no list for the product. Health agencies do report issues for its ingredients: stomach upset, headache, rare liver injury, nerve harm from high vitamin B6 and a blood-thinner interaction with ginkgo. Check seven things first, and ask your doctor if you take medicine.

What can we say about Zeaxan side effects?
Not much about the product, and a fair amount about its parts. Nobody has run a trial of Zeaxan, so no one has counted how many people get an upset stomach or a headache from it. What we can do is read what health agencies say about each of the 11 ingredients, then flag the ones that matter to you.
There is a second limit. The label gives only a 600 mg total for the whole blend (21 CFR 101.36). The amounts of each ingredient in two capsules may be far below the doses studied, but nobody outside the maker can confirm that. So treat each warning below as a reason to pay attention, not as a prediction.
Stomach
Bacopa and ginkgo.
Head and dizziness
Ginkgo.
Liver
Green tea extract and cinnamon.
Nerves
Vitamin B6 totals.
Stroke question
Alpha-GPC choline.
Salt
Himalayan pink salt and sodium.
Long use
Bilberry leaf.
Check 1
Check 1: Will Zeaxan upset your stomach?
It can for some people. The MSD Manual lists upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue as the most common effects of bacopa, which is the fourth ingredient on the label (MSD Manual, bacopa). Ginkgo, the eighth, can also upset the stomach (NCCIH, ginkgo).
A simple habit helps you see a pattern: take the capsules at the same time each day and note any stomach trouble. If it carries on, stop and ask your pharmacist. Diarrhea is one of the symptoms people search for, and the answer here is the same: it is a known effect of bacopa, not something proven for Zeaxan itself. Constipation is not named for any ingredient in our sources.
Check 2
Check 2: Could Zeaxan cause headaches or dizziness?
Ginkgo is the ingredient to watch. NCCIH lists headache, dizziness and stomach upset among its possible effects (NCCIH, ginkgo). Ginkgo sits eighth of 11 in the blend, so the amount is likely small, but the amount is not printed.
If a headache or dizzy spell begins soon after you start, stop and call your doctor or pharmacist. Tell them about all 11 ingredients by bringing the bottle. Insomnia, anxiety and high blood pressure are also common searches. Our sources do not link them to any Zeaxan ingredient, and that is a gap, not an all-clear. We list them as not published.
Check 3
Check 3: Is Zeaxan safe for your liver?
There is no liver data on Zeaxan itself. One ingredient calls for care: green tea extract in pill form is rated a well-established cause of liver injury, with more than 100 published cases (LiverTox, green tea). It is rare. In trials a liver blood marker called ALT rose in 6.7% of extract users compared with 0.7% of others. NCCIH adds that a gene variant seen in about 5-15% of Americans seems to raise the risk (NCCIH, green tea). Drinking green tea as a beverage has not been tied to liver injury.
Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which is linked to liver problems in sensitive people at high intakes (NCCIH, cinnamon). Zeaxan prints no amount for either one. If you have liver disease, or take medicines that strain the liver, ask your doctor before you begin and do not stack Zeaxan with other green tea extract products.
Check 4
Check 4: Could the vitamin B6 add up?
Yes, if you take other vitamins too. Adults need 1.3-1.7 mg of vitamin B6 a day, and the upper limit is 100 mg a day. Taking high doses for a year or longer can damage nerves (NIH ODS, B6). The Zeaxan label prints no B6 amount, so you cannot add it to your other pills with certainty.
This is the practical reason to show your pharmacist every product you take, including a B-complex or a multivitamin. The same is true for other eye vitamins with lutein and zeaxanthin. Count the totals, then decide.

Check 5
Check 5: What about the stroke question and alpha-GPC?
The label lists AGP choline third. That is alpha-GPC, a choline compound. A large observational study of about 12 million Korean adults linked alpha-GPC use to higher stroke risk over 10 years, with a hazard ratio of 1.46 (Lee et al., 2021). Observational means it does not prove cause.
Nobody knows whether this applies to Zeaxan, since the amount is not printed. If you have had a stroke or have stroke risk factors, ask your doctor before starting. For reference, adults need 425-550 mg of choline a day, with an upper limit of 3,500 mg (NIH ODS, choline).
Check 6
Check 6: Should the salt in Zeaxan worry you?
Himalayan pink salt is listed first, which suggests it is the largest single ingredient in the blend. That sounds alarming, but the whole blend weighs 600 mg. The Daily Value for sodium is under 2,300 mg a day (FDA, sodium), so the salt in one serving is small against that figure. The exact amount is not published.
If you have been told to limit sodium, mention Zeaxan to your doctor and let them judge. Do not guess.
Check 7
Check 7: Is long daily use safe?
No study has looked at long-term use of Zeaxan. Two ingredients carry long-term notes. NCCIH says bilberry leaves may be unsafe in high doses or for long periods, and Zeaxan uses leaf powder at an unpublished amount (NCCIH, bilberry). High-dose B6 for a year or more can harm nerves, as above.
Check in with your doctor at your yearly visit. For lutein and zeaxanthin themselves, our sources list no specific side effects (Wilson et al., 2021). Blood pressure, kidney effects and skin changes are not covered by our sources, so we do not claim anything about them.
| Ingredient (label order) | What sources report |
|---|---|
| Himalayan pink salt (1st) | Sodium, with a Daily Value of under 2,300 mg |
| Cinnamon extract (2nd) | Cassia cinnamon has coumarin, linked to liver problems in sensitive people |
| AGP choline (3rd) | One observational study tied it to more strokes |
| Bacopa (4th) | Upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue |
| Bilberry leaf (6th) | Leaf may be unsafe in large amounts or when used for a long time |
| Vitamin B6 (7th) | High doses for a year or longer can damage nerves |
| Ginkgo (8th) | Dizziness, stomach upset, headache; bleeding risk with blood thinners |
| Green tea extract (11th) | A rare but well-established cause of liver injury as pills |
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does Zeaxan have side effects?
No one knows for the product, because no study has tested it. Its ingredients carry known notes: bacopa can upset the stomach, ginkgo can cause dizziness and headache, and green tea extract pills are a rare cause of liver injury.
Can Zeaxan cause diarrhea?
It might. Bacopa commonly causes nausea and diarrhea according to the MSD Manual (MSD Manual, bacopa). This is a reported effect of the ingredient, not a proven effect of Zeaxan. If it carries on, stop and ask your pharmacist.
Can lutein and zeaxanthin themselves cause side effects?
Our sources list no specific side effects for lutein and zeaxanthin (Wilson et al., 2021). That is not a promise of safety. The rest of the blend carries the warnings, and the amounts are not published.
Does Zeaxan raise blood pressure?
Not published. None of the sources we use links a Zeaxan ingredient to blood pressure changes. If you have high blood pressure, ask your doctor before you start, as the label advises for anyone with a known medical condition.
Is Zeaxan safe for the kidneys?
Not published. Our sources do not cover kidney effects for any ingredient in the blend. Anyone with a kidney problem is a person with a known medical condition, and the label tells that group to consult a physician first.
What should I do if Zeaxan seems to disagree with me?
Stop taking it and call your doctor or pharmacist, with the bottle in hand. Any change in your vision that is sudden, such as flashes, many new floaters or a shadow, needs same-day care from an eye doctor.
Where we land
Our view
The honest summary is that Zeaxan's side effect profile is unknown, and its parts are mostly mild with a few real exceptions. Stomach upset is the common one. Liver injury is rare but serious. The blood-thinner interaction with ginkgo is the one to settle with a professional before the first dose.
None of this means Zeaxan is dangerous. It means the blend deserves a pharmacist's look if you take regular medicines. Zeaxan is not FDA approved, and no supplement treats or prevents a disease. This page is general information, not medical advice.
